Iberia Parish is centrally located in South Louisiana, between the cities of Houston and New Orleans. The parish features four communities including New Iberia, Jeanerette, Loreauville, and Delcambre. Major commercial waterways include the Gulf of Mexico, the Port of Iberia and the Bayou Teche.

Land

A commuting region, Iberia Parish is located in the Acadiana area of South Louisiana, approximately 16 miles from the intersection of I-10 and I-49. US Hwy 90 bisects the parish, and an interconnecting network of State highways provide effective routing for vehicular traffic as well as motor freight transportation. The New Iberia train depot is not only listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but also connects this area’s storied history, dating back to 1900.

Air

With multiple regional airport opportunities within the Lafayette Metropolitan Area, Acadiana Regional Airport is a fully-certificated General Aviation Airport featuring an 8,002-foot long, 200-foot wide lighted concrete runway and fully instrumented airfield.

A public use airport owned by Iberia Parish Government and managed by the Iberia Parish Airport Authority, the airport is surrounded by acreage primed for development as well as an up-and-coming mixed-use commercial park. Mere miles down the road is the Lafayette Regional Airport, currently undergoing a new terminal expansion and offering a variety of services for corporate and private aircraft. Three runways provide daily service for the area’s three national airlines, offering easy connections to major transportation hubs across the country

Water

The Port of Iberia, a 2,000 acre industrial and manufacturing site surrounding a man-made port complex, has access to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf of Mexico through its own Commercial Canal and has access to the Mississippi River through major ports in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Less than one mile from the Port of Iberia is US Highway 90, the future I-49 Corridor, that expands our capabilities with intermodal access.

Planning for the Future

Nestled deep in the heart of “Cajun Country”, Iberia Parish’s progressive communities work together with local and area agencies and organizations to enact a strong economic development plan for the future. Recently, IDF, in conjunction with the Iberia Parish Government and the City of New Iberia, began the development of an economic forecast and master plan for the parish, with an emphasis on identifying and implementing initiatives that provide long-term benefits to the parish. Instrumental in the success of these plans are the infrastructure systems serving the Parish.
